A significant part of the German Wehrmacht vehicle fleet during World War II was made up of 3-tonne cargo trucks.
One of the most popular was the L3000S, which was produced from 1940 onwards in Daimler-Benz plants. This truck was powered by a 4 cylinder Daimler-Benz OM 65/4 diesel engine and had rear-wheel drive only.
L3000S trucks were widely used by all parts of the German army up until the end of war, such as at the Soviet-German front, in Italy, and in France. In off-road conditions, the rear-wheel drive vehicles showed minimal cross-country capability, so some L3000 trucks were upgraded with four-wheel drive and were designated as L3000A. In total, 27,700 L3000S trucks were produced from 1940 to 1944.
