GM2310101 - MARK 3 TS 48101 GWR CASTLE
PROTOTYPE
The MK3 coaches entered service between 1975 and 1988. These coaches were originally designed as locomotive hauled stock, but were later modified for HST use.
The MK3s share lots of similarities to the MK2s but had a rigid roof and skirted under frame, the length was nearly 10 feet longer at 75 feet over the buffers and the body shell was designed with a stressed steel skin which was lighter and stronger than previous designs.
One of the main advances on the MK3 from the MK2 was the secondary air suspension fitted to the bogie system. This allowed for smoother running and with the primary coil springs and hydraulic dampers the coaches were able to run smoothly at 125mph instead of the limited 100mph from the MK2s.
Most MK3 coaches built are still in service today, including on the Royal Train.
MODEL
The DCC Compatible Plug-In Lighting Bar is an optional extra and can be easily fitted to illuminate the coach from within. The light bar is available in either yellow, for incandescent lighting, or white, for modern lighting.
The light bar can be set for either yellow, for incandescent lighting, or white, for modern lighting.

PROTOTYPE/HISTORY
The class 43 HST units were designed by BR and developed between 1975 and 1982.
These units were used all over the country and, due to their sleek design and ability to reach high speeds in short distances, they were instantly a favourite for railway operators. They were ideal for non electrified route, which were common in the 1970s and 1980s.
There are still over 150 of these units in service and some have been converted to New Measurement Trains (NMT), also known as the Flying Bananas, by Network Rail.
